Reception Desk Styles

Almost every office or place of business has a reception desk to greet your guests and customers as they enter the premises. There are several types and styles of reception desks and every kind says something about the company behind the desk.

We will discuss the various forms that today’s reception desks come in. What they look like, how they function, and most importantly, what they say to your customer and your image as a business.

Reception desks come in many styles, but on the two opposite ends of the spectrum you’ll find a small simple office desk, and on the other end you’ll find a large imposing tall walled epic custom desk.

The first style we’ll discuss is the tall imposing custom build reception desk. This is the style of desk where it seems like your walking up to a judicial desk to plead with a judge. Because of this feeling you get, we tend to refer to this style as the Judicial Desk. These desks are very tall from the front side, often peeking at around 4 to 5 feet tall.

The tall judicial style of desk is more than a desk, it’s a monument to reception desks. There is often room for more than one receptionist behind this style, as well as more often than not, a risen platform for the receptionists to be able to easily see out and over the imposing structure.

A step down from the Judicial Desk style, is the Mini Judge. A mini judge, is simply a smaller, less imposing form of the Judicial Desk. With this smaller style, you often do not tend to get the elevated platform for the receptionist to sit on, nor is there room for more than one receptionist in most cases.

As a complete opposite to the Judicial desk, you have a standard office desk. Maybe this is the style that matches your decor better do to your black, or even white office furniture. This can be anything from a standard glass computer desk, to a L shaped office desk. But often this style of desk, just blends in with the other desks in the office making it a little confusing for customers. Make sure if you use this style, to really set it apart in it’s own welcome area to avoid confusion.

Even more confusing than the standard office desk is to use a standard cubicle desk. If it’s at all in your budget, please try to avoid this. It just screams tacky.

The last style of reception desk we’ll discuss is the grand table reception desk. The grand table style, is once again, just how it sounds. It is a grand flat table of a desk. With this style, there are no cubbyholes, shelves, or different levels to the desk. It is a flat surfaced table. But, it is typically a table in a grand style, meaning it has the fancy carved legs as well as corners and front pieces. This style of desk, is simple, yet stands for class all the way around.

So, take your pick. Depending on the look and feel you’re going for, you can go from Judicial and imposing, to simple yet elegant, to standard work desk and even confusing. A receptionist’s desk can say a lot about the company. Pick well.
