Just how does one set about completing a daunting task? How about, “one bite at a time!” The right way to complete any large task has essentially the same answer, “One step or motion at a time.” Taken all together, it can be formidable. Break it down into its elements, into small bite-sized chunks, and those usually do not look formidable in the least. The steps will be smaller. They’ll each be easy enough and “do-able”. And once you have completed each one of the steps, you suddenly realize you have come all the way from the beginning to the end of completing the whole huge project! It’s exactly the same with the way to optimize your work space. Here then is how you can approach the elephantine task of optimizing your area, in 7 simple steps.
Step 1. If new furniture is in the budget, consider purchasing a new L shaped office desk.. With this you will need to consider some aspects about the space you’re trying to fill and organize. If you choose not to do that or forget it, you’ll expect that things may not fit, or at the very least they may not match and flow well.
Step 2. Organize your stuff initially assigning positions to as much of your stuff as possible. This part is very important because everything should have a home, or starting location. Put it there and see how well it likes to live there. Or at least how likely you are to feel that’s the right spot for it ).
Step 3. Always remember to put things back in their place when you’re done using them on a day to day basis. Which means everything has a home, and once you’ve established the rightful place of all things, life flows better and tasks are easier to accomplish if things stay put and don’t wander about.. Additionally, it means that you must simply take a moment after every task to place things where they belong for their next use..
Step 4. Label things in a simple manner. This is going to involve a label gun if you have one, if not you can always use tape and a pen/marker. By taking the time to label locations of where things belong, it makes it easier later to always put them back. The labels act as a visual reminder at all times..
Step 5. Insure you have enough space and storage items to fulfill your storage and organization needs. Among the important points to bear in mind here is to have a variety of storage devices, such as drawers, cabinets, baskets, file holders, etc. . Why this can be important is if you have more to store than you have space to store it in your work area, it becomes exceedingly difficult to keep organized (practically impossible really).
Step 6. Do things NOW! Instead of setting things asside to be done at a later date, do them right now. Don’t wait, and pile things up. If you do, the pile will manage to magically grow until it’s daunting again. Do it right away instead and this breaks this issue down.
Step 7. Place your L shaped office desk in a position in the room that keeps you from facing any distracting things to draw your attention. It’s nice to look over your shoulder and see what’s going on out the window or down the hall. I know everyone wants a window view, but truly to be more productive, it’s better if that view requires you looking away from your work desk to see as apposed to right in your view at all times. You are now almost there! Remember, Get an L shaped desk, face it to the corner away from distractions, organize where things go originally, always put things back where they go when you’re finished with them, label your storage, make sure you have enough storage devices, and always, always, do things NOW! With these tips you’ll have an organized smooth flowing work space in any time soon.
And that is how you can optimize and organize your working environment, a task that seems daunting to most, completed in 7 simple steps.
And that’s what your work desk is all about.
